backDo You Need Permission to Quote Yourself? I just stumbled on this
quote
from an
essay
I wrote a few years ago. The quote is the sum total of my contribution to libertarian thought.

[Posted at 03/04/2008 06:28 PM by William Stepp on IP as a Joke Comments Maybe they're thinking of that new WIPO broadcasting right (ptui! wash my mouth out), I mean, privilege that protects a redistribution against 'theft'.
So, even if you grant a liberal license to your own work, a redistributor can still stop you copying from their redistribution of it. That's only fair isn't it? How else is a poor publisher/broadcaster to make any money if they can't keep on being granted distribution monopolies (or rights as they like to call them)? Please note, this is a spoof, but it does point to the fact that copyright increasingly "belongs" to corporations and that the users of content are losing their rights to the usage of content. [Comment at 03/06/2008 01:21 PM by Steve R.] Submit Comment |
