Copyright abuse in Nevada politics

Talking Points Memo tells us that Nevada Senatorial candidate Sharon Angle, running against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, has sued him for violating copyright link here. He had posted her old website after she took it down and rewrote her old far-right positions used to win the primary, in favor of more moderate ones.

Reid did take down the copy, after stating that he had made his point about her retailored views.

This interesting abuse or misuse of copyright law again shows an old fox obeying the law but getting what he wanted, including great publicity in a campaign where it is not all that easy to get news coverage.

Ben Sheffner, at copyrightsandcampaigns, has a different twist to this matter that is worthwhile reading. As he correctly, in my opinion, notes that copyright in this instance is almost certainly trumped by fair use. In investigating the matter, however, Ben presents information strongly suggesting that the real issue at hand was not because of copyright, but for another reason assonsicated with Reid's attempt to secure sensitive information that by any measure should not be disclosed to an opposing candidate for office.
To follow up on this story, Talking Points Memo posted today that Senator Reid restored a slightly amended version of Angle's original website. It has the headline--

The whole post is here. It contains a long list of the substantive issues on which Angle is now backtracking.

Thanks for clarifying that. I love returning back to this site and reading the quality content...rezultate live-jocuri poker
