If You Believe in IP, How Do You Teach Others?

Powerful piece by Jeff Tucker: If You Believe in IP, How Do You Teach Others?

The MIT model is the model of the ancient world and every university environment ever since, and it is the only way to deal with a digital society in which every thought becomes globalized upon utterance. FULL ARTICLE by Jeffrey Tucker

You know, this is a point I often bring up when someone suggests that copyright should last forever.. I ask, who should you pay every time you hear Ode to Joy, see the Mona Lisa or the statue of David.. No public domain = no culture.

The impact of this generations IP maximization approach will likely be felt for centuries to come and result in exorbitant education costs. But the cost that is un-measurable is to be paid in lost innovation and innovators, by the gap that were creating in our culture. In fact, we will have no culture that isn't controlled under boot by IP conglomerates. They alone decide what can be said and who can say it. In short it's the death of organic culture.

I think of Apple when I think of modern culture. Mac fans have a culture (or cult) thats undeniable. But it's ruled with an iron fist, like Chinese culture is today. Hasn't anyone stopped and asked themselves What the hell kinda world are we making here?? I think Law makers should be required to ask themselves that very question as often as they ask their bosses in Hollywood for campaign contributions.
